Huxley was an authentic visionary. Having read his "The Doors of Perception" in addition to Brave New World, I believe his underlying message is not just about us becoming victims of our own technology, his bigger picture is about the evolution of the human condition and the degradation of the human spirit.

Historically, we had to fight and struggle to climb the evolutionary ladder but in modern times survival is much easier. Our materialistic hedonism has led us farther and farther away from the social activities that once helped us sustain a more balanced human condition. Personal spiritual experiences as described in The Doors of Perception have been vital in providing a way to build and maintain that balance.
